Back tuck

DRILL 1

BACK ROLL OFF BLOCKS

This drill gives the gymnast the feeling on the last 1/2 of the Back tuck.

FOCUS POINTS

 A1 

Arms should always be straight and cover the ears.

​

 A2 

The chin should be tucked in, so the gymnast keeps the head center and not tilted to the side.

​

 A3 

Keep the knees as close to the forehead as possible.

PREREQUISITES
  • Back roll

EQUIPMENT
  • 4 x Running blocks

  • 1 x Soft mat

DRILL 2

SET TO CANDLESTICK

This drill emphasises the position in the leap before rotating in the tuck position.

FOCUS POINTS

 A1 

Arms should always be straight and cover the ears.

 A2 

The chin should be tucked in, so that the gymnast keeps the head center and not tilted to the side.

​

 B  B 

Make sure the gymnast tightens their glutes so there is a straight line through their body.

EQUIPMENT
  • 1 x Running block

  • 1 x Soft incline

  • 1 x Landing mat

DRILL 3

CANDLESTICK FALL TO TUCK, LAND ON FEET

The drill combines the leap and the Back tuck rotation.

FOCUS POINTS

 A1 

Arms should cover the ears until the first 1/3 of the rotation is completed.

 

 A2 

The chin should be tucked in the whole time.

 

 B 

The gymnast should land with their arms pointing down towards the mat, so their core stays strong until the end.

EQUIPMENT
  • 3 x Running blocks

  • 1 x Soft mat

DRILL 4

TRAMPETTE TO CANDLESTICK

The drill combines the leaping phase with a bounce to better simulate a high lift before adding the rotation.

FOCUS POINTS

 A1 

Arms should cover the ears until in the first 1/3 of the rotation.

 

 A2 

The chin should be tucked in the whole time.

 

 B 

Make sure the gymnast tightens their glutes so there is a straight line through their body.

  • Handstand - D4

EQUIPMENT
  • 5 x Running blocks

  • 1 x High landing

  • 1 x Soft incline

  • 1 x Trampette

  • 1 x Salto cube

TRAMPETTE TO BACK TUCK

The drill combines the leap and the Back tuck rotation.
